At Berkhamsted Baptist Church we offer all young people a warm welcome and we provide activities as part of our Sunday Church Services for babies through to children up to age 13.
We are committed to making our church:-
- A place to have fun
- A place to learn about Jesus
- A safe place
- A place where people listen to young people
- A place where children and young people feel loved and accepted
- Crèche (for babies and toddlers up to 3 years old)
We have a dedicated room for our crèche. It is bright and well stocked with toys, books and puzzles. The crèche is staffed by caring and experienced helpers who are CRB checked.
Parents are welcome to stay with their children if they wish to and there is an option to listen to the church service through speakers into the crèche room. Alternatively, our crèche helpers will be happy to look after the children whilst parents/carers return to the service.
STARS (for children from Nursery age to Year 2)
STARS meet in the Lower Hall. After welcoming and settling the children and sharing news, it’s usually time to move over to the brightly coloured mat to enjoy a story together. Back to the small children-sized table for crafts and similar activities before it is music time and the children sing and dance to children’s Christian songs. The session is concluded with a drink and biscuits and play time! There is a brightly coloured leaflet to take home so that they can show and tell about what they have done. It is a happy, friendly group where children feel comfortable and relaxed.
Kids for Christ (for children from Year 3 to Year 8)
Our older children’s class explores a wide variety of Christian themes and Bible stories. The use of games, drama, group discussions and crafts ensures that the time is varied and enjoyable. The group provides a valuable place to share concerns in a safe and affirming environment and the children are encouraged to feel special and valued, and to have fun whilst learning.
All Age Services
Once a month, we have an All Age Service (usually the fourth Sunday of each month). This means that our children stay in the service and the service is made especially accessible. There are opportunities to get involved and the theme is chosen to be relevant to all ages. The service is usually shorter and aims to last between 45 minutes and an hour. Although there is no Sunday school during these services, we still offer a crèche facility for the under 3s.
We believe that every individual is precious to God and that He wants them to know Him and know His love for them. We will try and ensure that we provide an environment which is safe, reassuring and loving for each child.
Each child is different, and so it is with children with special needs. If you would like to discuss arrangements for your child with someone, please contact our children’s work co-ordinator, Alun Sainsbury, on 01442 828732. It would be particularly helpful to contact us prior to the service if your child has significant mobility issues.
All our adult helpers are police checked and we support and comply with the Baptist Union’s ‘Safe to Grow’ child safety guidelines.
